Fun facts about our friends at GUCCI. On the final day of Fashion Week in Milan, some three hours by car to the north, the company loaded editors from around the world onto a Gucci express, a fast train that shuttled them to Florence to preview the first ever fashion museum, which opens to the public on Sept. 28. What a coincidence that the opening falls on yes “LALY’s” birthday!!!! (The museum will be open almost daily, and half the €6 admission, about $8, will be donated to a fund to help Florence preserve its historical treasures.)

The Black and White Ball was a night of enchantment and magic.

The biennial bash brought performances by Paul Simon (backed by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra), Cyndi Lauper, The Wallflowers, Janelle Monae and DJ Masonic. The Black & White Ball consisted of a decked out City Hall with a full light show, concert performances,  and confetti surprises.  A full array of hors d’oeuvres were served from any cuisine one’s heart desired, ranging from sushi to chocolate covered strawberries.

Wine and bubbly was flowing and the hall was filled with present-day and aspiring fashionistas and dapper dressers… But what made this night special was the cause behind all of the “hoopla” of the event:

The Black and White Ball benefits the Symphony’s music education programs, which serve over 75,000 students in the Bay Area elementary, middle, and high schools each year. The event helps continue this musical legacy for San Francisco’s youth.

LALY designs would like to continue to support this cause.

Starting Friday 6.8.12 at 10 am, we will be auctioning off this beautiful piece of jewelry from the same designer that brought us the Laly Designs Zoë Hong Black & White evening gown.

Last week Laura Moreno was featured in Apparel News as fashion and retail tech’s hottest start-up, especially for investment.

Laura Moreno says “the female demographic is a driving force.”

Female focus

Fritz Lanman, a founding investor in Pinterest and co-founder ofJNSQ, a mobile fashion magazine and publishing platform, said the popularity of fashion tech businesses is, in part, due to fashion and apparel representing such a valuable core demographic.

“Women 18 to 50, especially those into luxury, comprise a hugely disproportionate percentage of GDP,” Lanman said.
Laura Moreno, founder and president of Laly Designs, a San Francisco company that sells apparel online and helps designers with social commerce and marketing, also said the female demographic is a driving force.

“There’s always one sector that’s ‘hot’ right now for investors, and I believe it really started with the focus on mom businesses, specifically with the sale of Diapers.com to Amazon. When that occurred, investors started to really take the mom- and female-focused business much more seriously,” Moreno said. “You then saw the infusion of capital into female businesses such as Plum DistrictKiwiCrateCitrus Lane, and then into the female fashion business with companies like ModCloth and …Rent the Runway. There’s also a big push in Silicon Valley to invest in more female-run companies.”

A while back we had the chance to share our favorite designs and inspiration for life at Decades with you.

We showed you how we can mix music, dance, fashion, and art from Decades past.

After Decades we saw this theme re-visted in a larger scale with Jean Paul Gaultier.

His designs were presented as profound artwork in his 2012 exhibition.

Incorporating art and fashion, while finding inspiration from one another is common ground  for all great designers.

Marc Jacobs once said

”" I look for a fresh spirit each season, but you never know what will set you off.

When you are in touch with yourself and receptive to new things, that’s really how anyone gets an idea.”"

Les Arts Decoratifs To Honor Marc Jacob’ Work At Louis Vuitton is an

example of how designers inspire each other

This image is a collision of art and fashion. Jacobs has explained how he comes up with so many different collections each year,

explicating it’s important that he pays attention to his surroundings.

In fact, he pays such great attention that he was able to make vandalism

into “Art by Jacobs” shirts for $689.00 a pop!!

The LALY designs team headed out to the city of angels last weekend and caught some of Brandi Shawnell of Shawnell O’shea Swimwear and Brad Carrick of SOLZ newest looks in the sunlight on a boat, provided by Newport’s Balboa Bay Club.

The day started at Standard in Downtown LA, where one of Kim Kardashian’s favorite makeup artist performed her waterproof magic on our models. Here is a clip from our LALY live stream, where the expert herself tells us how makeup is best done for a shoot on the water: Kim K’s Makeup artist gets LALY models ready for the shoot.

When we got to the bay club, our yacht was patiently waiting for our departure…

I consider myself very lucky to understand Daniela Cunha Lay personally because she is not like any other artist, designer, or even human being out there. Daniela Cunha Lay’s creativity is raw and beautiful. In my opinion her style of work is intoxicating and dark, but her intentions are pure and honest. She carries a heavy soul and each time she lifts a paint brush, her emotions translate into genuine masterpieces. Her work is always filled with the deepest of emotions…

Daniela is the face in front of and behind DCL Street Wear

She is a painter, driver, artist, lover, story teller, creator. She brings us Studio DCL live as of midnight today for SPRING 2012 Issue of LIKE Magazine. The LALY team is truly proud to see one of our own create so much in such a short period of time.

“My love for art has always been stronger than me.”

It’s refreshing to meet an artist with so much determination, focus, creativity and passion in the Bay Area. In her interview with LIKE Magazine she explains her obsession with art, and says that at times art takes full control of her time and attention. She can spend over 16 hours at once, merely perfecting her expertise. Well from what we see, it’s well worth the time put in Daniela, so keep going!

The purpose of DECADES was to bring SF much more than just a fashion show, we were determined to show how naturally different artists can collaborate together.  From several months back, the LALY team and myself had the vision to make this show very different. Our first priority was to bring our cutting edge designs right to the runway. Secondly, we were willing to do whatever we could to make this event aesthetically gorgeous in every way possible. We started to do our homework early by dissecting fashion shows around the world from Milan, London, Tokyo, and Paris. During our search LALY designs was invited to the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week of events!

Laura Moreno and myself packed our bags

and headed straight to the  fashion capital of the world

New York, New York.

After attending dozens of high profile fashion shows from some of our role models like Vera Wang, Narcisso Rodriguez, and Naeem Khan, mingling amongst celebrities and talents at their fashion parties, and exchanging SF/NY strategies, we came back INSPIRED to put on one hell of a show for the San Francisco world of fashion.

DECADES was an inspiration of life! Throughout the night we celebrated the collaboration and union of music, dance, technology, art, entertainment with fashion while six of our seven designers showcased their work down the runway.
